The pair trailed former Australian Rally Champion, “Dinta” Officer, for the first few days of the event, but when Officer’s Mitsubishi Galant suffered gearbox failure, Naish took over the lead. The final two days of the rally used some of the stages of Repco Rally Australia, including a tarmac street stage around Murwillumbah, and gravel stages near Kyogle. Thousands of spectators watched the classic rally cars, which ran after the World Rally Cars of the worlds’s best drivers, including Sebastien Loeb and Mikko Hirvonen. * * * * * The North Eastern Car Club will conduct the Mt Porepunkah Rallysprint tomorrow, with a strong field of drivers ready to tackle the event’s eight stages. A wide range of cars, from Mitsubishi Lancers and Subaru Imprezas, through to Ford Escorts and Hyundai Excels, will tackle the course, with fine and sunny weather expected. Under the direction of Ralph Scalzo, the Mt Porepunkah Rallysprint has quickly become one of the most popular events on the Victorian rally calendar, with drivers coming from far and wide to compete. Spectator instructions will be available from the start tomorrow morning (on the Back Porepunkah Road between Bright and Porepunkah). The first car is due to leave the start at 9am, and is expected to finish the event around 4pm.
